Microsoft Surface Studio Pro Desktop

Microsoft is going back to its roots and is releasing a new desktop computer for the first time in years. The Surface Studio Pro will be available in the US for the upcoming holiday season. The Australian release dates are yet to be announced.

While we wait for this new computer to reach our shores, what is the Surface Studio Pro all about? This computer is geared towards creative professionals and is meant to rival Apple’s market share of high-end designer and studio computers.

According to The Verge, Panos Panay, who leads Microsoft’s devices team claims, “We totally believe that Surface changes the way you produce, the way you create, the way you learn. This product is all of that — but it’s one step further. It’s going to seem familiar, but it’s going to feel different.”

The main selling points for this computer is a monitor with expanded colour output which is important for photographers, videographers, and designers. The display is a extremely sleek and thin wide screen. The Studio’s monitor tilts on a hinge and allows the display to be adjusted to a 20-degree orientation. This allows the display to be used as a surface that can be drawn on with a Surface Pen or a new radial accessory, the Surface Dial.

Both of these items can be placed directly on the Studio to activate and use menus and other features like adjusting volume, screen brightness, or scrolling through a document. The base of the Surface has numerous connection port options such as, audio, SD card, Mini DisplayPort, ethernet, 4 USB 3.0 ports and an in-built microphone.
